“Breezy
Knoll” is our rustic vacation cabin on Lake Desolation, in Middle Grove, NY.
just 12 miles west of Saratoga Springs. We believe it was built around
1910 as a surveyor’s cabin. Lake Desolation was a popular spot
for fishing and hunting from the early 1900’s. Many trails still exist
for hiking and mountain biking.
At one time the area had two inns for
overnight guests on the lake and another a
few miles back in the woods. There was also
a glass factory and graphite mine nearby
with small settlements of their own. The
glass factory made bottles for Saratoga
Springs mineral water. Vintage postcards
show guests enjoying the lake and these inns
beginning around 1905 through the 1950’s.
Norm and I had a home on the lake for ten
years prior to starting the Geyser Lodge Bed
and Breakfast in nearby Saratoga Springs. We
enjoyed living at the lake so much, Breezy
Knoll was purchased as a family get away.
“Breezy Knoll” cabin is available for rental
from mid-May through mid-October for 4-6
guests. It was recently renovated and is
fully furnished. We generally rent the cabin
for a week at a time at a rate of $650.
Occasional weekends may be available. The
end of July through Labor Day is often
rented for the full six weeks of the
Saratoga Springs horse racing season
